The things I did included: 1) running Windows updates (Windows 7 & this computer had been sitting for 3 years), 2) trying all three ports, 3) installing the USB driver separately (the link for this is near the bottom of this page: Nautilus Lifeline Support Troubleshooting PC Software), and 4) swapping the cable.
